Figuring that watching a movie on a 2.5” screen might be more appealing if you could actually see the actors expressions, Director of Photography Mike Beal shot tons of footage using close-ups and extreme close-ups.
Johnny intimates that Small Screen Cinema style was born out of necessity – as the production team found itself always pressed for time on location and with little money for background artists, art direction or set dressing. Consequently Mr. DeMille, the actors loved their close-ups, and Beal's camera work is da bomb.
